Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune Diseases London Ontario, Naturopath Doctor | Thrive Holistic

Are diseases where your body’s immune system starts to attack healthy cells. This creates inflammation leading to a low grade fever and fatigue.

Autoimmune disease differ based on the location of healthy cells being attacked. For example:
Rheumatoid Arthritis=Joints
Psoriasis=Skin
Ulcerative Colitis=Colon
Multiple Sclerosis= Nerves

  1. My process for supporting autoimmune conditions: Identify any triggers and support gut healing

  2. Optimize nutrients correlated with autoimmune conditions

  3. Add in herbs to balance the immune response

This process looks different for everyone.  Your treatment protocol is tailored to your specific health concerns and goals. Please connect if you have any questions.

Paleolithic Diet

Paleo Diet, London Ontario Naturopath Doctor | Thrive Holistic

AKA the AIP Diet (Autoimmune Protocol)

A Paleo Diet is a therapeutic diet to decrease inflammation in the body. It is commonly used in treating different Autoimmune conditions like lupus, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.

Why a Paleo diet? Way, way back in the day, more than 10,000 years ago, to survive, people hunted and gathered their food.  Today, more and more people are returning to a way of eating that’s more in tune with the early humans.  This includes foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds, lean meats and fish.  In general, foods that would have been obtained through hunting or gathering.  Farming introduced dairy, grains and legumes as additional staples in the human diet.  A paleo diet avoids all grains and legumes, dairy products, refined sugar, salt and highly processed foods in general.

Here is an example of what you could eat in a day if you were on the diet.

Breakfast- Omelet with toppings of choice (any veggies and/or meat)

Lunch- Salad or Soup with protein (chicken, fish, seafood, beef, egg)

Dinner- Fish/Meat/Eggs with veggies.  I personally like make 2 or 3 veggies as sides so it doesn’t feel like I’m eating a ton of the same thing.

Snacks- fruit, nuts, veggies, energy balls (see recipe below)

A paleo diet is a great option for many health conditions and I’d love to talk with you about how it might be a good fit for you.
